Real Estate Agents mainly work in specific areas. You may find an
agent in Athens
that has properties listed throughout but most will work within a confined
area. Coastal agents will have
listings for the coast and agents in the north will stick to the
Kifissia/Politia/Ekali area etc.
You may have to phone the agents several times before arranging
viewing and should you not find a place immediately, keep reminding them that you are still in the market.
Both agents and landlords do not really like to give too much
information out regarding rental price, terms or the address over the
telephone as each wants to execute the deal. If you have picked your area and
contacted several agents, you may end up seeing the same property on numerous
occasions therefore be sure to confirm which one of the agents is to receive
the commission on a specific property before you make your decision. It is not unheard of that a new tenant is being charged commission by
several agents for the one property.
Commission: There is no set rule among agents and
commission will vary from 3-6 weeks' rent from both the tenant and the landlord
or 2% of a 2-year contract. Clarify with each agent as to his or her
charge. You may be requested
to sign a document agreeing to pay commission on a successful letting.
