Day Trips to Islands
There are many ferries each day and you do not need to take a tour.
Except during the first two weeks in August, one can disembark from a boat
and find housing at the port.
Hydra: Small, beautiful, quaint port with many fine cafes and
tavernas; shopping not just for tourist, great hiking with no cars, and
beautiful clear water to swim.
Spetis: The port has it's array of cafe and fine eating but one
must rent either a motor bike or for the more adventurous a pedal bike to
ride through the 27 kilometers of unspoiled views of the land and the sea
with the added joy of stopping to swim along the way.
Aegina: Stop to enjoy the port's cafes and taverna with clear
views of the sea. Rent a taxi to see the Temple of Aphaia one of the best
preserved classical temples, visit a beautiful new Orthodox church , Moni
Agiou Nektarlou, dedicated to a 20th century saint; hike the old Paleohora
behind the church; drive by one of Kazanjakis's homes; visit the art studio
of Kupralos; swim on the small island accessed by an inexpensive taxi boat
from Perdika and finish the day by buying the home grown Pistachios.
