EDNY organizes a different overnighter on 7/12.
This time we will be going to Panio Mtn. hat rises SE of Hymettus Mtn. between Keratea and Kalyvia.
A small refuge made by local groups, which contains some basic furniture, outside toilets and fireplaces in two of its three spaces will accommodate us!
It is always open and available for those that will hike or drive to it since it is also available by car.
Next to it is the “Zoodochos Pigi”, a small chapel with religious drawing dating back to 1734 and particular architecture at its dome. The chapel was named by the spring that can be found next to it and is the only one on the whole mountain.
The view is amazing towards every direction as well as towards “our” Hymettus Mtn. that can be viewed from a different angle.
We will have the opportunity for small or larger hikes, depending on the weather and the group’s wishes, since the several paths end up at the location.
The schedule is the following:
Departure for the refuge will take place at 12. Upon arrival some clean-up work will take place in order to drop off our equipment and prepare for the night. Depending on the time this is over and until nightfall there is free time and a hike could take place.
Upon returning we will light the fireplace (firewood will need to be bought on the way there or gathered) in order to prepare our dinner and warm the place up.
The following day, after breakfast everyone’s belongings will be packed and for those that wish to do so there will be another hike. Towards noon we will head back.
