In March 1990, we bought ourselves a coffee machine! Today our fall meetings usually are standing room only for over 100 ladies. Melonie Chittock for the past two years arrives an hour early to start the two coffee pots for our large group.
Our "Raffle", or "Lucky Door Ticket", as we now call it, began through the efforts of Marilyn Maddox, a banker's wife! We were tired of passing the basket at each coffee morning to try to collect enough money to pay for our photocopying (it was, and still is, our greatest expense). Each month the woman who arrived most recently receives a special prize. This month two families arrived the same day so the prize went to the woman whose plane touched down on Greek soil in the early afternoon.

After moving from Politia to Voula, Marilyn Maddox thought of making a branch of Newcomers in the Glyfada area, mostly so people could enjoy their own activities without having to drive to the Northern Suburbs. Therefore, in October 1988, Newcomers By-The-Sea began! Moreover, with the help of a few longer-time residents in the area, it has become a great success. Newcomers By-The-Sea were very fortunate to "catch" Jean Johnston, who with the help of Silvia Wardle, have been its backbones ever since.

In the summer of 1991, DISASTER STRUCK... Marijane moved to Luxembourg... -who could ever fill her shoes? Who would ever speak at the meetings? We were in a panic! September's General Meeting lead by Anne Williams, whose ability to chat right along, made her a natural to do the introduction and welcoming portion of the meeting. Since then, our General Meeting Hostesses have felt comfortable speaking and welcoming the group and we continue to be blessed with many faithful volunteers with multiple diverse talents.

At the January 1992, Steering Committee Meeting, we were, once again fortunate to have many offers of help from our membership and have managed to share the ever-increasing behind-the-scenes jobs. As our membership is massive, in comparison to our beginnings, we have found it necessary to have Area Telephone Contact people, now called Area Coordinators, to help share the task of receiving the many number of telephone calls and another twenty jobs to keep the workload spread among our members. Their “Team Work" is what makes Newcomers possible.

A massive achievement by Diana Oakenfold and Lynda Evans was The Recommended Service Book that is a most helpful listing of all the information suggested by Newcomers over the years from dog care to hair care. Your recommendations and suggestions are always appreciated for this invaluable book.
